What is the Inner Child… 👧
What are inner child wounds & inner child healing all about… 👦🏽
There is a lot of talk about the inner child in the world of therapy and healing… so what is this inner child, what are inner child wounds and why does our inner child need healing… ❤️🩹
We all have an inner child which is a part of our Soul… it’s an energy which lives inside us, in our subconscious, which developed as we were growing up… we carry our childhood experiences and emotions with us into adulthood… we may look back fondly to our carefree childhood, where we were free to roam, play, experiment, live in our imagination and have fun… or we may look back with sadness & negative feelings if we were surpressed, not listened to, abandoned, abused and not allowed to play and grow up in a natural way with other children… we may also carry a mix of positive & negative emotions… for reasons we are unaware of…
We are uniquely formed by our own upbringing, and our parents and ancestors were all formed by their upbringing… this isn’t about blaming others for how we were raised… it’s about taking responsibility for our own healing, to become the best & happiest version of self… so we can live a fulfilled & happy life… nothing is by accident or coincidence, and our soul directs our life situations and experiences to guide us along the path we need to walk in order to learn what we came here to learn… 😳
Some children had adult responsibilities forced upon them prematurely, through circumstance, by unhealed parents or care givers who carried their own emotional scars… children with very difficult or painful childhoods may grow up to be narcissistic, controlling, manipulative and abusive towards others… they project their pain and anger onto others… either consciously or subconsciously… knowingly or unknowingly… or they may grow up to be very empathic and understanding towards others… two sides of the same coin…
A happy balanced inner child knows how to play, have fun, imagine, be creative and nurture positive relationships with a balanced give and take… whilst a wounded, unhappy inner child may create negative co-dependent relationships and not achieve happiness and fulfilment in life…
Children are impressionable, vulnerable and trusting, and it’s amazing how far a small word of encouragement can go to boost their self confidence… and how harmful negative treatment or words can be… abandonment wounds can lead to a lack of self worth later in life, and we may ‘settle’ for and accept bad treatment in order to be ‘loved’… we may mistake false love for genuine love…
We may not realise we are carrying inner childhood wounds, as these are usually subconscious, but later in life we may notice repeating patterns of behaviour, where we keep attracting the same kinds of partners or situations which lack fulfilment… we may choose to embark on our healing journey to uncover the source of the issue… this may be a self healing journey, or we may seek professional help from a qualified therapist such as a psychotherapist, psychologist, counsellor, or other…
It is through innerstanding an issue, by peeling back the layers and getting to the source of an issue, that we can begin to heal it, and healing can lead to forgiveness which is a powerful healing tool where we show compassion for ourself and others… and understanding that we’re all in this big melting pot called Life, together…
As a healer, I embarked unconsciously on my own self healing journey… I was guided down many healing paths and have learnt about and tried many healing modalities… I feel shadow work and inner child healing are very powerful healing tools… for me personally, a key to my inner child healing has been to allow myself to be creative, to experiment and play freely, with colour, art, cooking, gardening, interior decor… 🎨
The inner child loves to play… ask your inner child what it would like to do today, and allow him/ her to express themself freely… our inner child knows how to make us happy, excited, joyful and abundant… when you feel excited about something, that is the inner child saying Yes, let’s do this… and we need to ensure that our inner child feels safe… if the inner child is happy, the adult is happy… 😃
